Security Officer, 16 hrs/wk, Saturday

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Security Officer to join our team at McLean Hospital. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This is a part-time position, working 16 hours per week on Saturdays.
Key Responsibilities- Provide protective services to people and property, responding to routine and emergency calls for service.
- Assist with day-to-day operations of the department, including performing daily operational functions as directed by the Security Supervisor or Dispatcher.
- Respond to emergency, contingency, or disaster situations, and document all incidents after response.
- Utilize strong customer service skills and community policing philosophies to develop and build strong relationships with the hospital community.
- Manage complex and dynamic situations to help restore order, investigate nefarious or criminal activity, and take the necessary safety and security actions.
- Conduct initial investigations into all reports of suspicious activity, persons, hazards, or risk, and take the necessary steps to mitigate risk to patients, visitors, and staff.
- Perform access control functions, including ensuring that all employees, vendors, and contractors are in possession of an authorized form of identification and that it is clearly visible.
- Perform Dispatch and/or Console duties as assigned by the Supervisor/Manager, including coordinating Security activities, acting as liaison to other McLean departments and external agencies, and reflecting the friendly, courteous, helpful, and professional attitude of the department at all times.
- Minimum of a high school diploma required; a strong educational background in criminal justice or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 1-3 years of security or related experience preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
- Must obtain and maintain required certification in the following programs: CPR/AED/First Aid, CPI De-Escalation Training, and International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including positive image, tact, and diplomacy, active listening, and articulation.
- Ability to effectively interact with people of different levels and cultures, establish positive relationships, gain trust and respect of others, and handle a variety of diverse and stressful situations.
- Customer service skills, including accessibility, energy, concern, empathy, positive attitude, collaboration, and flexibility.
- Strong problem-solving skills, critical and analytical thinking, good judgment, prioritizing, industriousness, and creative resolutions for positive outcomes.
- Ability to deal with and de-escalate anxious/stressed people and manage aggression, and recognize potential impacts of decisions and ensure best positive outcomes to prevent/reduce injury, liability, and/or negative publicity.
- Competence to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, hospital policies, and procedures.
- Reliability and flexibility.
- Strong writing skills to provide and maintain documentation to support data, and basic computer skills, including typing and use of database software.
- Technology skills, including use of access control and database software, communications equipment, and first aid equipment.
