About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in the provision of safe and effective patient care, working closely with our pharmacy team to prepare, package, and dispense medication under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

Responsibilities will include compounding of sterile and non-sterile dosage forms, dispensing drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose, physician order entry, working with automation, inventory control, medication reconciliation, and CIVA systems. Preparation of chemotherapy doses, distributing narcotics, and participating in quality programs and patient safety initiatives are also key aspects of this role.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in pharmacy technician practice, preferably in a hospital setting. A graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program and licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) are required. Experience with sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy, as well as knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control, and record keeping, are also highly valued.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who:

  • Has a graduate degree in pharmacy technology or a related field
  • Is licensed and registered as a pharmacy technician in Nova Scotia
  • Has experience working in a hospital setting, preferably in a pharmacy department
  • Has knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy
  • Has experience with inventory control and record keeping
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills

Hours

This is a long-assignment, full-time position with a 75-hour bi-weekly schedule. The successful candidate will work approximately 12 months.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly rate for this position is $24.96 - $27.89, depending on experience. Successful candidates may also be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
