About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a key member of our inter-professional team, you will play a vital role in providing safe, competent, and patient-centered care to our patients.

Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, you will work collaboratively with our healthcare professionals to ensure the goals and needs of our patients are prioritized and individualized. You will be responsible for medication dispensing and distribution, preparation and packaging of medications, medication reconciliation, drug access navigation, and clinical support, as well as inventory utilization and management, compounding of sterile and non-sterile products, and participating in audits and quality programs.

Additional responsibilities may include taking telephone clarifications from physicians, narcotic destruction as mandated by Health Canada, providing technical information for patients on the proper use of drug-related devices, acting as a preceptor for technician students, and administering drugs by injection such as immunization for those with an active NSCP injection permit.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who has a graduate degree from an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program and is licensed and registered in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP). A drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) is an asset, as is experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital. Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are also an asset.

We value candidates who possess good decision-making and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications. Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage, and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs is also essential. Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience, as well as skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc., are also required.

Hours

This is a long-assignment position, working 75 hours bi-weekly. The start date is September 30, 2024, and the end date is October 31, 2025. Dates are approximate and subject to change.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly rate for this position is $26.97 - $29.98. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
