About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of medications to our patients.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing, packaging, and dispensing medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist
  • Compounding of sterile and non-sterile dosage forms
  • Dispensing drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose
  • Working with automation and inventory control systems
  • Medication reconciliation and CIVA system management
  • Preparation of chemotherapy doses and distribution of narcotics
  • Participating in quality programs and patient safety initiatives

Requirements include:

  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required
  • Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) an asset
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset
  • Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control, and record keeping
  • Demonstrated good decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
  • Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage, and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
  • Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

This is a long-assignment, full-time position with a 75-hour bi-weekly schedule. The assignment is approximately 12 months.

Compensation and Benefits

Registered Technician: $24.96 - $27.89 Hourly

(Pharmacy Practice Assistants: $23.19 - $26.27)

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
