Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our interdisciplinary team at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. As an LPN, you will provide high-quality nursing care to patients in our Downtown Eastside health clinic, working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, social workers, and peers to deliver comprehensive care.

About the Role

This is a regular part-time position, working 0.50 FTE. The successful candidate will have a strong background in nursing, with experience working in urban health settings, particularly with addiction, HIV/AIDS, or indigenous patient populations. You will be responsible for conducting assessments, implementing and evaluating interventions, documenting information, and acting as an advocate for patients.

Responsibilities
  • Provide safe and respectful nursing care to patients, according to established policies and procedures.
  • Conduct head-to-toe assessments, monitor and recognize abnormal signs or symptoms, and communicate with the RN/RPN as required.
  • Communicate with physicians regarding patient care and carry out verbal and/or written orders as required.
  • Document care provided, including assessments, status, progress, treatments, changes in condition, medications administered, and discharge planning.
  • Administer medications, including narcotics, according to established procedures, and monitor medication effects.
  • Use evidence-based resources to keep nursing knowledge and procedures up-to-date.
  • Respond to incidents such as Codes, injuries, or falls, and report incidents and fill out appropriate forms in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist with the orientation of new staff and student preceptors by performing duties such as demonstrating work procedures, proper use/location of equipment, sharing clinical knowledge, and acting as a positive role model.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
  • Current basic cardiac life support certification.
  • One-year recent, related experience working in an urban health setting, including experience with addiction, HIV/AIDS, or indigenous patient populations.
