We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Intake Staff Lawyer to join our team at the Law Society of British Columbia. As a key member of our Intake & Early Resolutions department, you will play a critical role in the effective assessment and resolution of complaints against lawyers, students, and former members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and resolve complaints involving professional conduct and competency issues.
- Provide advice to Intake Officers and other staff on complaint resolution.
- Exercise discretion to close complaints files or refer them to the Discipline Committee or Practice Standards Committees.
- Prepare opinions of fact and law for consideration by the Discipline and Practice Standards Committees.
- Work with and coordinate investigations carried out by other departments within the Law Society.
Requirements:
- Practising membership in the Law Society of BC or eligibility for membership.
- A minimum of five years of recent practice experience. May require specific subject matter expertise.
- Superior writing and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Mediation and Trauma-Informed training is an asset.
