About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Staff Lawyer to join our Intake & Early Resolutions department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assessing and resolving complaints against lawyers, students, and former members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and resolve complaints against lawyers, students, and former members
  • Work with the Professional Regulation Department and other staff as necessary
  • Review and assess new complaints to determine if there are professional conduct and/or competency issues
  • Consider ways to resolve concerns at an early stage
  • Provide advice to Intake Officers and other staff as needed
  • Exercise discretion to close a complaints file or send it to the Discipline Committee or Practice Standards Committees
  • Prepare opinions of fact and law for consideration by the Discipline and Practice Standards Committees
  • Work with and coordinate investigations carried out by other departments within the Law Society
Requirements
  • Practising membership in the Law Society of BC or eligibility for membership
  • Superior writing and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Mediation and Trauma-Informed training is an asset
