Track Maintenance Technician

Hastings Racecourse is seeking a skilled Track Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on our track equipment, ensuring the smooth operation of our racing events.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy equipment maintenance, with experience working with trucks, tractors, and other machinery. You will be responsible for performing tasks such as changing components, performing barn and track-area related repairs, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. You will also need to have a valid driver's license and be able to pass a criminal and credit record check.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on track equipment
  • Change components and perform barn and track-area related repairs
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment

Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • Proven ability to drive and maneuver heavy trucks and tractors safely
  • Proven ability to perform vehicular maintenance and repairs to required level
  • Forklift experience an asset
  • Experience and general knowledge of handyman duties such as basic carpentry and painting
  • Proven ability to handle and work in close proximity to horses
  • Physical ability to do heavy work, work at required heights, and in all-weather types
  • Knowledge of racetrack surfaces an asset
  • Knowledge of WHMIS an asset
  • Ability to work effectively without direct supervision; adaptability
  • Good inter-personal skills
  • Must successfully pass a criminal and credit record check by the Gaming and Policy Enforcement Branch (GPEB) - Racing
