About the Role

HarperCollins Publishers is seeking an experienced Data Governance Specialist to support the implementation and maintenance of our organization's data governance framework. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing data governance solutions that meet the organization's needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with data owners and custodians to develop and implement data governance processes, standards, and procedures.
  • Perform analysis to gain subject matter expertise for various data domains, documenting current data flows, identifying data silos, data duplications, and inconsistencies, and recommending solutions for resolution.
  • Lead the data governance committee(s) of various domains to align data definitions and maintain common schemas.
  • Collaborate with data owners and other cross-functional teams to document data inventory, definitions, and data mappings for integrations and data quality rules.
  • Work with various technology groups to implement governance solutions and standards, controls, and validations in various source applications.
  • Develop and maintain data quality standards and metrics.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with data governance policies and procedures.
  • Provide training and support to stakeholders on data governance policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in data governance, business analysis, or a related data field.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling and database design with the ability to write and run complex SQL queries.
  • Knowledge of metadata management tools and data catalogs for implementing governance policies and tracking data lineage, data ownership, and documenting glossary and definitions.
  • Understanding data integration and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tools for ensuring data consistency and integrity across different systems and applications.
  • Familiarity with relevant technologies such as SQL Server, Big Query, Azure Synapse, Power BI among others.
  • Experience in project management, business analysis, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
