The City of Toronto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisor of Parks Operations to join our team. As a key member of our Parks, Forestry and Recreation division, you will be responsible for supervising and managing the day-to-day operations of our parks and open spaces.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and Manage Parks Operations: Oversee the integrated operation and maintenance of parks and open spaces, including horticulture, turf management, artificial and natural ice rink operations, winter maintenance, general maintenance, and managing parks events.
- Lead and Develop Staff: Supervise and motivate assigned staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality, productivity, and organizational performance.
- Monitor and Evaluate Performance: Monitor and evaluate staff performance, approve salary increments, hear grievances, and recommend/disciplinary action when necessary.
- Implement Plans and Policies: Implement detailed plans and recommend policies/procedures regarding program-specific requirements.
- Communicate with Stakeholders: Communicate with staff across the division to ensure consistency in delivery of service, and represent the division/branch on project committees.
- Manage Budget and Resources: Provide input into and administer assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
- Ensure Health and Safety: Act as a supervisor under the definitions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and ensure that adequate training, safety equipment, and safe work procedures are in place.
- Education and Experience: Post-secondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Supervisory Experience: Considerable supervisory experience gained through progressively responsible positions in parks maintenance and operations.
- Leadership Skills: Excellent conflict resolution skills in dealing with public complaints and the ability to de-escalate potential volatile situations.
- Technical Skills: Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Collective Agreements, and other relevant legislations.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, customer service, written, and oral communication skills.
- Administrative Skills: Effective administrative, planning, human resources, and financial management skills.
- Technology Skills: Proficiency in the use of current office and workplace technology and various computer applications relevant to the position.
