Disaster Management Coordinator

The Government of Alberta's Emergency Management Agency is seeking an experienced Emergency Response Planning Specialist to develop, plan, facilitate, coordinate, and execute provincial level emergency management plans, exercises, and the lessons learned process. This position requires experience in emergency planning, including developing, implementing, and evaluating emergency planning and preparedness programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and implement emergency and/or contingency plans.
- Provide expertise on emergency management planning and preparedness programs.
- Collaborate with multiple ministries' representatives and specialist planners to develop, plan, facilitate, coordinate, and execute provincial level emergency management plans, exercises, and the lessons learned process.
Requirements
- University degree in a related field PLUS 2 years of progressively responsible related experience or equivalency as described.
- Experience in emergency planning, including developing, implementing, and evaluating emergency planning and preparedness programs.
- Demonstrated experience developing, reviewing, and implementing emergency and/or contingency plans.
- Several years of tactical and operational level experience in the fields of planning and the operation and function of an Operations Centre.
- Extensive experience writing complex plans that involve multiple stakeholders.
- Experience in knowledge sharing through multiple mediums (presentations, exercises, briefings, etc.).
- Thorough knowledge of the pillars of emergency management (mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery), the Incident Command System, related government programs, and relevant acts and regulations that affect emergency management.
- Understanding of consequence management concepts and processes.
- Understanding of business continuity concepts and processes.
- Familiarity with provincial and federal disaster recovery programs.
Working Conditions
This position is deployable, requiring the ability to work from disparate locations. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively and provide guidance to others in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
