About the Opportunity

POSITION SUMMARY

The Employment Support Mentor plays a critical role in guiding participants towards skills development, job searches, and creating a positive work environment. This position requires a strong ability to network and create partnerships with local businesses and organizations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop partnerships with Winnipeg-based businesses to create work experience opportunities for youth
  • Assess applicants to determine suitability for work readiness
  • Conduct intake assessments and screenings to identify participant strengths and needs
  • Collaborate with participants to develop personalized Personal Development Plans (PDPs) to boost workplace literacy
  • Support participants in exploring career options that meet their needs and interests
  • Facilitate referrals to enhanced support services for mental health and cultural needs
  • Meet regularly with participants to provide progress reports
  • Support participants and employers with any issues that may arise
  • Develop and maintain the work experience partnership database
  • Coordinate employment placements for all participants
  • Provide financial oversight for payment to work experience partnerships
  • Deliver and facilitate training and workshops on workplace literacy and skill development

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of experience working with at-risk youth
  • Two years of experience in curriculum development and delivery or employment counseling/job coaching
  • Post-secondary education in the human services field
  • Proven ability to network and create positive community partnerships
  • Effective leadership attributes
  • Ability to provide supervision and evaluation to students performing practicum placements
  • Understanding and appreciation of Canadian history and its impacts on colonization and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Intermediate-level proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of community resources and strengths-based and solution-oriented approaches
  • Crisis intervention, harm reduction, and conflict resolution skills
  • Applicant certifications (e.g., First Aid/CPR Level C, ASIST, De-Escalation training, Mental Health First Aid, and Safe Talk)
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry check, and Adult Abuse Registry check
  • Ability to be flexible with scheduled based on program and participant needs
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract
  • Access to a personal vehicle for work
