Airport Surface Maintenance Specialist

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority is a dynamic and innovative workplace where you can make a difference in the aviation industry. As a Specialist, Airport Surface Maintenance, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of airport operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair airport surfaces, including airside and groundside areas, using heavy equipment and specialized airport equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections and pick up Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and litter from airport areas.
  • Repair and maintain fences and non-illuminated signs, and inspect them as required.
  • Respond to spills and clean up debris on the airfield and groundside, and deliver Airport Emergency Support equipment as needed.
  • Train new employees on Surface Maintenance equipment operation and conduct AVOP training as assigned.
  • Perform daily inspections and cleaning of mobile equipment and vehicles, and maintain cleanliness of assigned facilities.
  • Operate tractors, mowers, and hand-held trimming machines to maintain grass areas.
  • Control ice and snow contamination on the movement area using specialized equipment.
  • Clear obstructions from airfield edge markers, signs, and other areas as required.
  • Apply de-icing and anti-icing chemicals as needed.

Requirements:

  • Secondary School education and/or experience in heavy equipment operation.
  • Valid "D/Z" Provincial Driver's License.
  • "D" class Airside Vehicle Operator's Permit (AVOP) or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Snow removal, construction, and heavy equipment experience an asset.
  • Meet the security level designated for the position.
  • Obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of ISO 14001, spills containment procedures, Hazmat, and TDG procedures.
  • Airfield and groundside layout, maneuvering on the airfield, surface repairs, and maintenance work.
  • Operation, mechanics, inspection, and regular maintenance of buses and equipment.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions and lift varied amounts of weight.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, initiative, sound judgment, dependability, and mature approach.
  • Excellent command of the English language and communication skills.
  • Customer service mindset and ability to work on a rotational shift basis.
