Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Worker to join our team at the Foundry in Penticton, B.C. This is a relief full-time position until the return of the incumbent.

About the Role

The Peer Support Worker will utilize their own lived experience of substance use and/or mental health, combined with peer support training and skills, to assist MHSU clients in identifying and meeting their goals. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the client and the MHSU team to determine aspects of the care plan, identify, develop, and implement programming to meet the client's goals, and assess progress and adapt or change the plan as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide supportive counseling, wellness planning, case management, formal advocacy, life skills assistance, information, resources, and demonstrations to clients.
  • Work collaboratively with the MHSU team and relevant community partners to support clients' self-identified goals for recovery and community integration.
  • Utilize autonomy to determine aspects of the care plan with clients and work in collaboration with the MHSU team and relevant community partners.
  • Provide services in a variety of environments dependent on the needs of the client.
Requirements
  • Two years of lived experience in recovery from either substance use, co-occurring substance use and mental illness, or mental illness.
  • Diploma in a Social Services program and successful completion of a recognized Peer Support Training program.
  • Two years recent related experience in a peer support role, or an equivalent combination of education, training, peer support, and employment experience.
  • Appropriate valid BC driver's license.
