Job Description

The Registered Nurse, Mental Health (MH) provides comprehensive care to patients from initial presentation in the Emergency Department (ED), supporting their transition and care to the Inpatient MH Unit through to discharge. The RN works closely with the multi-disciplinary team including psychiatrists, nurses, and other allied healthcare providers. This position allows the nurse to provide crisis stabilization and care of the patient, as well as collaboration and communication with the Psychiatrist to support timely disposition to discharge or to the Psychiatric Care Unit.

The RN provides ongoing assessment, care plan development, provision of treatment and medication as well as discharge planning and linkages with community resources according to patients' presenting needs. The RN will also perform other duties as required related to their scope of practice.

This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors in all areas of the hospital. The RN liaises with the Emergency Department, Inpatient Unit, Day Hospital Program and with the CMH Outpatient Services and other Inpatient Units as needed to provide seamless and appropriate care to those with mental health issues.
