Job Summary

The University of British Columbia seeks a highly skilled Network Analyst I to join its IT team. As a key member of the Network Infrastructure Services unit, you will be responsible for providing second-level technical support for the university's network infrastructure and systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement, monitor, and support various network components, including routing and switching, network security, and support systems.
  • Fulfill service requests and resolve incidents related to switching, routing, network security, firewall policies, and support systems.
  • Provide network security operations support, including installing, configuring, and managing firewalls, VPNs, and related network security devices and applications.
  • Create and maintain scripts and programs used to automate network operations.
  • Take initiative to remedy deficiencies, notice where efficiencies can be gained, and recommend enhancements for optimum performance in network operations, infrastructure, and workflows.
  • Compile detailed documentation and quality reports for operations and projects.
  • Provide business and after-hours on-call support on a rotational basis and be available off-hours to work on emergency network problems, maintenance, and project activities.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • CCNA or similar advanced technical certification in routing, switching, or network security.
  • At least three years of experience supporting enterprise LAN/WAN, large campus networks, network operations, network security, and network management.
  • Ability to multitask, balance multiple streams of work, prioritize workload based on management direction, and work under pressure to resolve challenges and meet project deadlines.
  • Knowledge and experience working in various areas, including routing and switching, network security, network monitoring, management, analysis, and orchestration systems, support systems, scripting, and data centre technologies.
