Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate professional to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and their families. As a Psychiatric Care Specialist, you will be responsible for providing and coordinating high-quality psychiatric nursing care services to patients on our Inpatient Psychiatry Unit.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients, identifying actual or potential problems and strengths through nursing diagnosis.
  • Actively participate in and support the total therapeutic program of the unit, collecting information from various sources to enable provision of appropriate nursing care.
  • Write timely and accurate reports of relevant assessments and observations, including patient and family education, and evaluation of nursing care.
  • Communicate and consult with members of the healthcare team about patients' care, set priorities, assign and delegate tasks to support staff, and participate in interprofessional conferences.
  • Advocate for patients' rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information, promoting person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients/families/caregivers and sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with patients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment, psychopharmacology, counseling, and group facilitation skills.
  • Physical ability to perform duties of the position.
Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $41.42 - $59.52 per hour, commensurate with experience. Additionally, we provide opportunities for professional growth and development, a collaborative work environment, and a comprehensive benefits package.

The estimated annual salary for this position is approximately $86,500 - $123,500, based on a 40-hour workweek and a 52-week year.
