Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Emergency Psychiatric Liaison Nurse to join our team at Fraser Health. This role is ideal for a compassionate and experienced nurse who wants to make a difference in the lives of patients and their families.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work closely with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide psychiatric nursing care services to patients treated in the Pediatric Emergency Department. You will assess patient needs, develop individualized care plans, and provide counseling and education to patients and their families.

You will also have the opportunity to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless transitions of care and optimize patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
  1. Evaluate psychiatric nursing care needs of assigned patients and provide direct care.
  2. Develop and modify individualized care plans in consultation with the interprofessional team and family members.
  3. Perform psychosocial assessments and collect collateral information related to patients' primary support group, social environment, occupation, education, housing, finance, health service access, and legal problems.
  4. Develop care plans with final dispositions authorized by the Emergency Department Physician or consulting Psychiatrist.
  5. Maintain clinical records by collecting and documenting information, including healthcare information regarding patients and their families.
  6. Collaborate and consult with Emergency Department staff and other allied health department service providers.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One (1) year's recent, related experience in an acute psychiatric setting, including experience working with an adolescent population.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental health assessment, psychopharmacology, concurrent disorders, and DSM-V multiaxial diagnoses.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies, suicide risk assessment, violence management protocols, general counselling and interview techniques, and individual and group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply clinical knowledge in practice and communicate effectively with others.
