Associate Director, ESG Risk Management Specialist

Job Summary

This role supports the development and implementation of Royal Bank of Canada's processes for measuring, managing, and monitoring Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) risk. The Associate Director will be a key member of the ESG Risk Engagement & Oversight Team within Enterprise Risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Director, ESG Risk Engagement & Oversight on various internal projects, including sustainable finance initiatives, transition plan assessments, and new metric development.
  • Lead research efforts to identify and manage emerging ESG risks.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on climate, energy transition, and decarbonization matters when reviewing credit transactions and advising business teams.
  • Support data analysis and data visualization needs of the team.
  • Assist in preparing internal management reports and presentations for senior management and the Board of Directors.
  • Support the development and review of external disclosures, including annual reports and ESG reports.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a process to integrate environmental, climate, and social risk into the existing risk management framework.
Requirements
  • Interest in ESG risk and climate change.
  • 5+ years of work experience.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate while managing competing tasks and complex subject matter.
  • Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to quality and accuracy with a high level of attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in a sustainability-related field.
  • Data analysis and data visualization skills.
  • Knowledge of climate risk and target setting guidance issued by PCAF, NZBA, TCFD, ISSB, and/or OSFI.
  • Experience with decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors.
  • Knowledge of bank processes and procedures, particularly relating to credit assessment and monitoring.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders and senior executives.
