Job Summary

The City of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Dispatcher to join our Emergency Communications team. As a Dispatcher, you will be responsible for receiving emergency calls from the public and other agencies, quickly analyzing the information received, and dispatching the required emergency vehicles. You will also be responsible for efficiently operating console equipment, including telephone, radio, and computer-aided dispatch systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and respond to emergency calls from the public and other agencies
  • Analyze information received from callers and dispatch emergency vehicles as required
  • Operate console equipment, including telephone, radio, and computer-aided dispatch systems
  • Make calm and sound decisions in emergency situations
  • Work effectively in a team environment to provide excellent customer service

Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (grade 12) or recognized equivalency
  • Minimum of four years in a customer service field, face-to-face or telephone
  • Previous Fire Service experience, particularly in an Emergency Communications Centre, is an asset
  • Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
  • Current Red Cross Standard First Aid/CPR level C or AED certificates

Working Conditions

  • Work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with constant emergency situations
  • Work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively

Language Requirements

  • Designated Day 1 Ready – immediate requirement for language proficiency: French: oral. English: oral, reading, writing
