Materials Science Technician Role

We are seeking an experienced Metallurgical Laboratory Technician to join our Engineering Team at Sotera Health Company. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the safety of our products and meeting relevant regulations and standards.
The Metallurgical Laboratory Technician will be responsible for operating laboratories and equipment/supplies, conducting tests and experiments, and providing expert advice and reports. This position requires strong technical skills, including knowledge of analytical techniques and experience with material test methods and failure analysis.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling them to clearly communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical colleagues. They will also have the ability to work effectively with a team of engineers and other professionals to achieve common goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct tests and experiments to analyze materials and provide expert advice.
- Operate laboratory equipment and supplies, and maintain calibration records.
- Provide training and guidance to junior staff members.
- Participate in long-life product surveillance programs.
Physical Requirements:
- Good manual dexterity and grip strength.
- Ability to push and pull hand carts with a force of up to 25 kgs occasionally.
- Lift up to 5 kgs frequently and 10 kgs occasionally.
- Work with arms/hands frequently.
- Ability to climb stairs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Technologist Diploma (3 year) in Engineering Metallurgy or similar field.
- 10 years of relevant technical experience.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to delegate work and work under minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of computer programs, including word processing and spreadsheets.
- Experience with welding and weld design, specification, and qualification.
- Familiarity with chemical compositional analysis techniques, such as XRF.
- Prior experience working with chemicals in a laboratory setting.
