Job Summary

The Director of Education is a key member of our team at Sylvan Learning - Abbotsford, BC. This role is responsible for delivering a high-quality personal customer experience by ensuring that the ongoing educational needs of our families are met and that our education programs are delivered by teachers as designed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Delivery
    • Supports the Centre Director in delivering assessments to students, updating lesson plans, and preparing teaching materials.
    • Teaches the Sylvan curriculum in a 3:1 setting to students when necessary. The candidate will interact with and motivate students during instruction, and evaluate and document student progress after instruction.
  • Center Operations
    • Manages and delivers all conference activities such as preparing conference materials and meeting with parents to keep families enrolled in Sylvan.
    • Ensures that all teachers are trained and certified to deliver Sylvan programs and monitors teachers' performance.
    • Motivates and develops staff by providing ongoing learning opportunities.
  • Student Progress
    • Monitors student progress to ensure goals are achieved and ongoing family needs are met.
    • Conducts parent conferences on a regular and timely basis, with appropriate documentation.
  • Communication
    • Maintains regular contact with the schools via teacher conference either in-person, via email, or over the telephone.
    • Communicates with the Centre Director any concerns regarding student progress or instructor performance.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field from an accredited university.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred; experience in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Skills
    • Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn.
    • Hard-working, exuding empathy, and love working with children.
    • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
    • Proven ability to discuss and sell Sylvan products and services to new and existing customers.
    • Self-starter who is able to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
Working Conditions
  • 8 hour shifts, Monday to Friday (opportunity to start part-time).
  • Occasional weekend shift for marketing events.
