About the Role

  • This Senior Surety Claims Consultant position is a key role within our National Surety Claims Department, responsible for overseeing complex surety bonds claims.">
  • The successful candidate will lead a team in handling large loss and major claims, developing and recommending strategies for file handling and resolution.">
  • With a strong background in surety industry knowledge, including jurisprudence, this individual will demonstrate excellent negotiating and problem-solving skills.">
  • They will also be responsible for managing internal and external resources, such as legal counsel and consultants, to mitigate expenses.">
  • As a senior member of the team, this consultant will assist management in driving changes and strategizing initiatives for the department.">

Responsibilities

  • ">
  • Lead a team in handling complex claims on surety bonds, assessing coverage, liability, quantum, and recovery of loss activities.">
  • Maintain relationships and synergy with Surety Underwriting and provide client support on moderately complex claims-related matters.">
  • Work closely with the Manager to develop and recommend strategies for file handling and resolution of claims, including Large Loss and major claims oversight.">
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills in collecting documentation and setting out and documenting the rationale of claim strategy and settlements within established authorization levels.">
  • Manage internal and external resources, such as legal counsel and consultants, retained for claims handling assistance and apply expense mitigation for same.">
  • Assist management with driving changes as needed and help strategize initiatives for the department as they arise.">

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years of surety claim experience, with a strong background in surety industry knowledge, including jurisprudence.">
  • Legal degree is required, and management, coaching, and mentoring experience is an asset.">
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.">
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.">
