Associate Vice President, Transportation

We are seeking a seasoned professional to lead our Transportation team as an Associate Vice President. A successful candidate should possess prior organizational leadership experience, be able to collaborate with Principals, Managers, and team members, and be a strategic problem-solver. In addition to leadership abilities, a successful candidate should maintain existing and continue to build a network of clients and lead business development initiatives planning, implementation, and tracking for the Transportation group.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Vice President, Transportation.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop, track, and implement an annual business plan and multi-year strategy for growth in the Transportation discipline.
  2. Ensure decisions such as staffing, project delivery, and business development align with the organization's business plan and vision.
  3. Lead and participate in business development initiatives and operational growth for Transportation.
  4. Liaise with existing and develop future clients, support major pursuits and proposals, and monitor budgets and schedules.
  5. Manage tasks, team, schedules, budgets, cost control processes, and project work procedures. Identify and manage project issues and risks and, if needed, enhance resolution or actions; collaborate with other offices and managers across Canada.
  6. Provide technical support and guidance to the design and planning teams and oversee projects/project performance.
  7. Prepare and/or review planning reports, design reports, technical specifications, and proposals.
  8. Provide input to the development of engineering budgets and schedules to meet requirements.
  9. Ensure projects meet professional needs and quality standards and participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  10. Provide strategic direction and guidance to a team of engineers and professionals, ensuring effective project execution and delivery.
  11. Actively grow the group, recognize and mentor leaders, and implement succession planning.
  12. Liaise with clients, suppliers, regulatory agencies, utility companies, and contractors; represent the company in professional associations and agencies.
  13. Administrative duties as allocated, including financial and staff management, staff development, and mentoring.
  14. Other related duties as assigned/required and appropriate to this position.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  2. Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) within the province of Ontario.
  3. 20 years of progressive industry experience in a similar role for an engineering consulting firm.
  4. Strong organizational leadership skills.
  5. Practical knowledge of technical design, and construction sequencing, and constructability.
  6. Experienced in meeting timelines and budgets, proposal writing, client development, and other skills appropriate to consulting.
  7. Demonstrates superior oral and written English communication skills.
  8. Possess a strong ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with staff and clients.
  9. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a collaborative, team environment.
  10. Knowledge about industry trends and best practices.
