Strategic Legal Director for Public Sector Growth

The Building Ontario Fund seeks an exceptional Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel to drive strategic legal direction and governance excellence across our organization. This key role will play a pivotal part in shaping the vision, strategic direction, and priorities for the legal function, ensuring seamless compliance with applicable regulations.

About the Opportunity:

We are looking for a seasoned leader who can leverage their expertise to champion focus on client service, collaborative culture, and forward-thinking within the legal function. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and other Executive Leadership team members to achieve this vision across the agency.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree or equivalent qualification, and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
  • Minimum 15+ years post-call experience, with at least 5+ years' experience at a leadership level, including management of a legal function;
  • Significant experience in transactional support, financing of infrastructure and real estate projects, and negotiation of complex deals involving public and private sectors;
  • Experience managing governance and compliance requirements with respect to Board and Committee interactions;
  • Proven ability to lead, inspire, and engage cross-functional teams;
  • Strong understanding of public sector regulatory environment and experience leading teams in a complex public sector organization;
  • Ability to work effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Accountability for strategic decisions and experience navigating challenging decisions in the best interest of the organization;
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and build high-performing teams.

What We Offer:

We offer a highly competitive salary estimated at $250,000 - $300,000 per annum, commensurate with experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision coverage, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
