The BC Cancer Foundation is seeking a highly skilled Strategic Philanthropy Professional to join our Vancouver team.
This role will play a critical part in planning key strategies for potential donors poised to support our organization with philanthropy. The successful candidate will provide insight and strategy for high-quality prospect research and pipeline development and analysis to provide accurate, timely, and strategic information on prospective donors to our fundraising staff and Major Gifts team in Vancouver.
The incumbent will also cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of prospects through face-to-face meetings, phone calls, emails, and stewardship opportunities.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Development, responsibilities will include:
- Cultivate, secure, and steward major gifts in the $25,000 to $500,000 range
- Develop an understanding of BCCF fundraising priorities, attending prospect and donor strategy meetings where necessary to recommend research strategies and approaches
- Maintain accurate, strategic, and timely information on prospects and donors in our database, Raiser's Edge, through coordination with database staff
- Qualify new donor prospects for further action in line with organizational fundraising priorities
- Identify new prospective donors, assess their gift capacity and potential, uncover facts that show how an optimum size gift may best be solicited; contribute to the development of targeted cultivation strategies
- Identify giving patterns of current donors and high-level prospects; identify donors with potential for growth and increased involvement with BCCF
- Setting and achieving aspirational annual activity goals aligned with the priorities of the Foundation and BC Cancer related to: strategic donor engagement; solicitations (current and planned gifts) and the success rate of same; engagement of our BC Cancer partners; and collaborative activities related to revenue generation across the Foundation.
- Assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive plan designed to increase funding; and heighten public awareness of BC Cancer research and care in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland
- Participates in the planning and evaluation of fundraising programs, campaigns, projects, and events to ensure that the focus and integrity of the BC Cancer Foundation is maintained and resources deployed where appropriate.
- Participates in the recruitment and subsequent involvement of corporate and community leaders in the cultivation and solicitation of gifts.
- Evaluates site/program results with direct manager to identify potential challenges and respond to day-to-day concerns.
Core Knowledge + Skills
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to provide clear executive information
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices; keen interest in new and innovative ideas for research and pipeline management
- Ability to locate, analyze, interpret, synthesize, and communicate information, financial data, and reports into information that will guide qualification, cultivation, and solicitation strategies and stewardship reporting
- Demonstrated initiative, creativity, effectiveness, and organizational skills and the ability to work well and within timelines
- Demonstrated professionalism and tact in handling highly sensitive and confidential information ethically; adhering to professional standards and protecting the confidential information of BCCF and BC Cancer
- Strong knowledge of the philanthropic climate and opportunities in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland
- Ability to work under tight timelines and competing priorities
- Excellent computer skills, including word processing, database/information management, email, and internet. A knowledge of sophisticated fundraising software programs, preferably Raiser's Edge, would be an advantage

Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in fundraising/donor relations, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- A willingness to work beyond work hours, evenings as required, and occasional travel throughout the province of B.C.
- Must have a valid driver's license and regular access to a vehicle.
Salary Range
- Development Officer, Major Gifts: $68,000 to $85,000
- Senior Development Officer, Major Gifts: $82,000 to $94,000
Candidates will be informed which position they are being considered for during the recruitment process, based on experience and skillset.
