Development Officer OR Senior Development Officer, Major Gifts

This is an exciting opportunity to join the BC Cancer Foundation as a Development Officer or Senior Development Officer, Major Gifts. In this role, you will be responsible for planning key strategies for potential donors, providing insight and strategy for high-quality prospect research and pipeline development, and cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of prospects.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Development, your responsibilities will include:

  • Cultivating, securing, and stewarding major gifts in the $25,000 to $500,000 range
  • Developing an understanding of BCCF fundraising priorities, attending prospect and donor strategy meetings to recommend research strategies and approaches
  • Maintaining accurate, strategic, and timely information on prospects and donors in our database, Raiser's Edge, through coordination with database staff
  • Qualifying new donor prospects for further action in line with organizational fundraising priorities
  • Identifying new prospective donors, assessing their gift capacity and potential, uncovering facts that show how an optimum size gift may best be solicited; contributing to the development of targeted cultivation strategies
  • Identifying giving patterns of current donors and high-level prospects; identifying donors with potential for growth and increased involvement with BCCF
  • Setting and achieving aspirational annual activity goals aligned with the priorities of the Foundation and BC Cancer related to: strategic donor engagement; solicitations (current and planned gifts) and the success rate of same; engagement of our BC Cancer partners; and collaborative activities related to revenue generation across the Foundation.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of a comprehensive plan designed to increase funding; and heightening public awareness of BC Cancer research and care in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland
  • Participating in the planning and evaluation of fundraising programs, campaigns, projects, and events to ensure that the focus and integrity of the BC Cancer Foundation is maintained and resources deployed where appropriate.
  • Participating in the recruitment and subsequent involvement of corporate and community leaders in the cultivation and solicitation of gifts.
  • Evaluating site/program results with direct manager to identify potential challenges and respond to day-to-day concerns.

Key qualifications for this role include:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in fundraising/donor relations, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • A willingness to work beyond work hours, evenings as required, and occasional travel throughout the province of B.C.
  • A valid driver's license and regular access to a vehicle
