Job Summary:

A highly skilled Senior In-House Legal Counsel is sought to provide strategic legal advice to all areas of Affinity Credit Union, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with organizational policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal and strategic advice to Affinity Credit Union's management and departments to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the selection, contracting, and management of external counsel to ensure effective and cost-efficient legal services.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in advising management on the legal implications of business operations and strategies.
  • Review and negotiate commercial contracts to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement a strategic framework for the legal department to enhance practices and policies.

Requirements:

  • A post-secondary degree and at least 10 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Membership or qualified for membership in the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
  • Advanced knowledge of legal practices and strategies within a business context, including negotiation, contracts, policies, and procedures.
  • Understanding of the financial services industry, including legislation specific to credit unions.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal or regulatory matters to various audiences in an understandable way.
