About the Role
As a Licensed Practical Nurse with Correctional Health Services, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care to individuals in secure healthcare settings. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team that is committed to delivering exceptional healthcare services to those who need it most.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish therapeutic relationships with clients, assessing and identifying their strengths and limitations, and providing emotional support as needed.
- Contribute to the development and modification of individualized care plans, identifying client priorities and suggesting revisions as required.
- Perform a variety of nursing procedures, including taking vital signs, administering medications, and communicating patient information to the healthcare team.
- Monitor client status and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions, reporting any concerns to the nurse-in-charge.
- Maintain accurate and complete records, tracking results and documentation in accordance with established procedures and policies.
Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized Practical Nursing program, plus 1 year of experience working in secure healthcare settings or with offenders.
- Current full practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
- Occupational First Aid Level 2 certification (OFA Level 3 certification for positions at the Ford Mountain Correctional Centre).
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively and organize work accurately.
- Ability to operate related equipment and demonstrate skill in CPR techniques.
- Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and the Declaration Act.
