About the City Manager Role

The City Manager is a senior executive position responsible for leading the administrative team of the City of Brandon Corporation. As the chief administrative officer, the City Manager reports directly to City Council and serves as the main liaison between Council and Administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist City Council in setting the direction of the City by providing guidance and advice based on trends and best practices in other jurisdictions.
  • Work closely with local government officials, as well as Federal and Provincial government officials, on various issues affecting the City.
  • Maintain strong ties with local business, government representatives, academic institutes, health authority, and community organizations.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the City administration and advise City Council on implementing strategic priorities.
  • Deal with complex issues within the public sector, including strategic planning, finance, budgeting, accountability, and public policy development.
  • Implement strategic and corporate goals, senior-level communication, and negotiation.
  • Ensure that the affairs of the City are carried out in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, or plans established by Federal, Provincial, or local government.

Requirements:

  • Legislated by the Provincial Municipal Act, with specific duties assigned as per the City Manager By-law.
  • Delegation of responsibilities and corresponding authorities to department heads through delegation letters to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
