About the Role:
BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Equipment Design Engineer to join our team in Peterborough, Ontario. As a key member of our Fuel Handling mechanical engineering team, you will be responsible for designing mechanical equipment and systems for CANDU reactors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop mechanical equipment and systems for CANDU reactors, including automated and semi-automated fuelling machines, robotic systems, and maintenance tooling.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design meets project requirements and industry standards.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, technical reports, and engineering drawings.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical support to CAD, Procurement, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Commissioning and Service personnel.
- Lead by example, ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards, quality systems, policies, and contractual requirements.
- Support process change through process enhancement and technology introduction to achieve world-class product development and product deployment.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external customers, subcontractors, and cross-functional internal teams.
- Support proposal development and review, including scope review, estimating, and technical presentations to the customer.
- Identify project risks, analyze solutions, and take decisive action to resolve issues and communicate these to the leadership team.
- Ensure health and safety associated with the execution of all projects and activities.
Requirements:
- B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.
- Holds or working towards a current PEO license.
- Typically requires 3 years' experience in design engineering in Nuclear, Aerospace, Transportation, or other highly regulated and process-based design.
- Demonstrated ability with supporting leadership on complex and general engineering projects over their complete EPC life cycles.
- Demonstrable experience with project schedules, working within budgets, financial metrics, and other project management methodologies.
- Exposure with a broad range of interdisciplinary activities; systems design, requirements development, interface design, manufacturing, and testing.
- Exposure to a broad range of interdisciplinary departments: systems, I&C, software design, and manufacturing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, understandable by a diverse audience.
- Creative problem-solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, developing leadership skills, and the ability to work in a team.
- Flexibility to work remotely on short-term customer site assignment.
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience with 3D CAD software (preference for Inventor/Solidworks) and FEA software (ANSYS).
- Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.
- Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards.
- Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and Standards.
- Knowledge of machine design.
