Our team is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry's most challenging problems.

We are looking for a Mechanical Equipment Engineer for our Peterborough, Ontario site. The successful candidate will work on technically challenging projects as a member of the Fuel Handling mechanical engineering team. Responsibilities will include the design of mechanical equipment and systems for CANDU reactors, as well as the development and test of mechanical equipment for automated and semi-automated fuelling machines, robotic systems, and maintenance tooling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide execution of design/analysis/test/commissioning of complex equipment and systems throughout the entire product life cycle.
  • Preparation or approval of design documentation, technical specifications, development and test plans, and engineering quotations.
  • 3D modelling for purposes of conceptual design, and performing stress analysis.
  • Application of design for manufacturability/assembly (DFMA) techniques.
  • Provide technical support to CAD, Procurement, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Commissioning and Service personnel.
  • Participation in internal and external meetings, such as design reviews, preparing and presenting technical data.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Holds or working towards a current PEO license.
  • Typically requires 3 years' experience in design engineering in Nuclear, Aerospace, Transportation, or other highly regulated and process based design.
  • Demonstrated ability with supporting leadership on complex and general engineering projects over their complete EPC life cycles.
  • Demonstrable experience with project schedules, working within budgets, financial metrics and other project management methodologies.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with 3D CAD software (preference for Inventor/Solidworks) and FEA software (ANSYS).
  • Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.
  • Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards.
  • Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and Standards.
