About the Role

The Sample Preparation Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the Sample Preparation department and ensuring that all staff follow established standards and procedures to deliver high-quality services to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintains close liaison with the Manager and other laboratory staff to ensure seamless delivery of services to clients.
  • Identifies and resolves internal and external problems as they arise.
  • Investigates client inquiries and complaints related to quality issues and suggests proactive actions.
  • Responsible for training and development of Sample Preparation technicians on routine sample preparation procedures.
  • Ensures that all Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to.
  • Ensures that all staff follow safety procedures and policies when working.
  • Maintains a positive work environment through active team participation and a focus on quality customer service.
  • Maintains Quality records and tracks worker progress.
  • Assists in the hiring process, including training and record maintenance.
  • Uses correct methods in accordance with established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality.
  • Observes established safety regulations and complies with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates new staff health and safety orientation and maintains an updated database.
  • Assists in writing safety procedures, policies, and develops educational materials for the safety program.
  • Chairs the Joint Health, Safety, and Environment Committee and provides training to members.
  • Assists with conducting incident management by investigating incidents, root cause analysis, and follow-up.
  • Develops safety meeting training materials and participates in meetings.
  • Coordinates all workplace safety improvement objectives.
  • Organizes and maintains the first aid team, first aid supplies, and first aid injuries.
  • Maintains and updates SDS records on site.
  • Assists with exposure monitoring protocols and equipment checks.
  • Facilitates training and respirator fit testing for existing employees and maintains records.
  • Manages special waste program requirements and other waste management initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

About You:

  • Experience in managing and training staff is an asset.
  • Strong customer service focus, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
  • Pleasant and professional telephone manner.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of office-related experience or reception experience.
  • Completion of an office administration certificate or diploma is preferred.
  • Some HR and benefits background would be an asset.
  • Experience in Health, Safety, and/or Environment programs would be an asset.
  • Forklift license/certification or experience driving a forklift is an asset.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Able to stand for up to 4 hours continuously.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for an extended period of time.
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers (i.e., using a keyboard).
