Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Urban Forestry Specialist to join our team at the Ville de Côte Saint-Luc. This permanent full-time position offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.

About the Role

The Urban Forestry Specialist will play a key role in maintaining the city's urban green spaces, working closely with various departments to ensure the health and well-being of our trees and plants. This includes collaboration with the Geomatics and Information System Division to update the inventory of public trees, conducting tree health assessments, and engaging with the community through education and outreach programs.

This role requires strong technical skills, including knowledge of office and field geomatics tools such as Esri's ArcGis platform, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. Responsibilities
  1. Tree Health Assessment: Conduct regular inspections to evaluate the health and environmental conditions of trees and plants, identifying issues and recommending corrective actions.
  2. Community Engagement: Develop and implement education and outreach programs to promote the importance of urban forestry, working closely with community groups and local organizations.
  3. Collaboration and Data Management: Work with the Geomatics and Information System Division to maintain accurate records of public trees, preparing reports and managing databases to support decision-making.
  4. Disease Prevention: Contribute to the development of strategies for screening and preventing tree diseases, ensuring the preservation of our urban forests.
  5. Citizen Support: Provide information and assistance to citizens, responding to inquiries and resolving issues related to tree care and maintenance.
  6. Research and Problem Solving: Conduct research to inform decision-making and resolve complex problems related to urban forestry.
Requirements
  • Education: College diploma (DEC) in arboriculture, landscaping, agronomy, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2-3 years of experience in a related field, preferably in urban forestry or a related discipline.
  • Skills: Strong technical skills, including knowledge of office and field geomatics tools, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Language: Fluency in English required, with proficiency in French an asset.
