About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled Policy Analyst to join our team at the Canadian Cancer Society. As a Policy Analyst, you will play a critical role in analyzing, developing, and communicating evidence-informed health policy on cancer control issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor, compile, and review health policy research on cancer-related issues
- Analyze and synthesize the results of scientific and health policy research to create plain language background papers, briefing notes, recommendations, and information materials
- Act as a resource and subject matter expert on cancer control issues to support the work of internal departments, including advocacy, communications, information, research, and fundraising
- Review emerging cancer control issues and provide sound policy advice on tight timelines to spokespeople and other staff
- Review Canadian Cancer Society cancer information material for accuracy and consistency
- Consult experts and collaborate with colleagues across the country on health policy
- Maintain knowledge exchange relationships with staff of other Canadian and international health organizations
- Work in compliance with the provisions of The Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, and comply with the Canadian Cancer Society's Health & Safety Policy
- Actively contribute to our culture of justice, belonging, equity, diversity, and inclusion by ensuring that all staff feel represented and heard regardless of their gender, age, religion, ethnicity, and nationality or race
- Other duties as assigned
We are looking for a highly qualified candidate with a graduate degree in health policy, public health, or a related field, and a minimum of three years of experience in policy analysis, health policy research, or a related field.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of cancer control continuum and scientific research process
- Strong knowledge of or interest in palliative care and caregivers an asset
- Knowledge of health systems and healthcare delivery in Canada an asset
- Ability to synthesize complex health information from diverse sources for multiple users
- Experience with policy analysis, developing recommendations, and options
- Experience with knowledge translation and evaluation
- Knowledge of patient experience approaches and strategies
- Understanding of health equity and experience working with communities that are underserved or equity-deserving populations an asset
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing priorities
- Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Bilingual in English and French an asset
