Job Summary

The Medical Director, Medical Staff Contracts & Compensation is a key leadership position at Island Health, responsible for ensuring high-quality services and strategic planning for medical staff contracts and compensation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Co-lead the development of new medical staff service models and contracts, working in partnership with the Director of Medical Staff Compensation, Contracts & Practice Design.
  • Provide collaborative leadership in the development of strategic allocation planning for compensation budget, including chairing the MOCAP review committee.
  • Support contract negotiations with medical staff, working in co-leadership with the Director.
  • Develop and implement innovative approaches to support the delivery of high-quality, efficient clinical services, aligned with Island Health's strategic priorities.
Scope of Work
  • Liaise with Island Health's clinical programs, geographical structures, and departments to support the development of clinical service models, contract negotiations, and resource allocation.
  • Manage fiscal resources in a financially responsible manner, consistent with the overall goals of the organization.
  • Champion equitable distribution of resources across the health authority to meet the needs of all patients in Island Health.
  • Foster collaboration and effective working relationships with stakeholders, promoting cooperative goals in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
  • Apply superior conflict-management skills and expertise to persuade and negotiate effective resolution of issues/disputes.
Accountability

Ensure the Medical Staff Contracts and Compensation is aligned with Island Health's strategic goals and objectives, and with the program goals and objectives of Medical and Academic Affairs.

Service Requirements
  1. Leadership: Co-lead and oversee activities to ensure program service delivery is efficient, effective, and integrated across Island Health sites.
  2. Operations & Quality: Establish processes and structures to engage physicians and staff in continuous quality improvement of service delivery.
  3. Change Management: Co-develop and implement change management plans to engage and support physicians and staff through change.
  4. Informatics: Oversee activities that advance technology and data use to improve service delivery using the Electronic Health Records (EHR) in collaboration with the Quality Systems team.
  5. Planning: Assess, monitor, and anticipate program resource needs and work with medical leaders and administrative leaders to prioritize these needs within available resources.
