About the Role

VanPile, a leading marine construction firm, is seeking a seasoned Chief Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our estimating department, you will play a crucial role in driving our business forward.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Estimating and Bidding: Coordinate estimating teams to review plans and specifications, create bids, select vendors and subcontractors, and evaluate cost-effectiveness.
  2. Risk and Contract Management: Handle risk and contract management tasks as required.
  3. Design Evaluation: Assess design options and endorse the best solution based on cost, engineering integrity, and material availability.
  4. Client Communication: Supervise client addenda and guide the estimating team on changes during the estimation phase.
  5. Cost Analysis: Compare historical costs and outputs with current cost projections.
  6. Construction Planning: Provide insights on the overall construction plan, including schedule, constructability, and logistics, and how they impact project expenses.
  7. Specification Review: Evaluate and provide feedback on changes in specifications, plans, construction methods, and materials.
  8. Estimate Compliance: Ensure all estimates comply with relevant codes, project specifications, blueprints, and standards.
  9. Contract Management: Review final estimates and manage awarded contracts as needed.
  10. Post-Project Review: Hold post-project debriefings with estimating, engineering, and production teams to identify successes and gain insights.
  11. Cost Tracking: Track actual expenditures against estimated costs.
  12. Health, Safety, and Environmental: Maintain unwavering dedication to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Requirements
  1. Experience: Bring a minimum of 12 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a proven track record of successfully bidding and securing large-scale projects.
  2. Marine Construction Experience: Previous experience in marine construction (e.g., piers, bridges, docks, berths, dredging) is highly desirable.
  3. Education: Hold a B.Sc in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  4. Software Skills: Proficient in software applications including Excel, HeavyBid, AutoCAD, and MS Project.
