Job Overview

The Underwriting Supervisor - Personal Lines is a leadership role that oversees the daily operations of a personal lines underwriting team. This position requires strong leadership skills to provide guidance and mentorship to team members, while also ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching and feedback to team members to enhance their performance and facilitate knowledge sharing.
  • Identify opportunities for employee development and provide support and mentorship to team members.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting Excellence to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews and participate in the interview process for new hires.
  • Communicate decisions and respond to requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Influence team members to achieve business objectives and support the development of business change initiatives.
  • Consult with Management on underwriting and staffing issues.
  • Participate in department strategic planning and goal setting.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations on underwriting decisions during Large Loss Reviews.
  • Foster positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in the Property and Casualty industry.
  • Post-secondary education or related business experience.
  • Completed a Property and Casualty Industry Designation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong leadership skills to positively influence team members and provide direction.
  • Prior leadership experience is an asset.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to adapt to change and perform effectively under pressure.
