We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Banquet Porter to join our team at Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. As a key member of our banquet department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of events and functions.

Job Summary:

The Banquet Porter is responsible for setting and preparing banquet floor forms for meetings and functions as specified by event contracts, resumes, and supervisors. This includes maintaining an orderly working environment, carrying out tasks assigned by your manager or supervisor, and ensuring guest service excels at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain knowledge of the hotel's events services and facilities
  • Ensure prompt and courteous service is extended to both internal and external customers
  • Carry out tasks as assigned by your manager or supervisor that pertain to the overall operation of the banquet department
  • Transport equipment and store it in the appropriate storage rooms in a safe manner
  • Understand and carry out duties according to all banquet event orders and instructions for each event
  • Understand all hotel and guest functions to be able to answer any questions made by guests
  • Clean banquet rooms, vacuum, mop, and dust as instructed
  • Ensure fire exits are clean and free of obstructions

Physical Aspects of Position:

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
  • Constant kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
  • Frequent ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps

Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, you should possess a teamwork approach, efficient task completion skills, fluency in English (written and verbal), previous experience in banquets in a hotel (preferred), and the ability to lift and transport heavy equipment. Excellent problem-solving skills and a positive professional demeanor are also required.
