About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a skilled Health Services Director to lead our Primary Health Care team. As a key member of the leadership team, you will be responsible for advancing the priorities of the portfolio by supporting the ongoing development and implementation of assigned Primary Health Care, Wellness, Chronic Disease Management, Department of Family Practice programs services and initiatives.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other members of the Primary Health Care leadership team to implement multiple Primary Health Care projects and initiatives to support the advancement of patient-centered, community-based primary health care programs and services within their Zone.

You will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the collaborative family practice, wellness and chronic disease teams spanning multiple sites in the Antigonish area. In the future, you will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the new 15,000 sq. ft Antigonish Primary Health Care Collaborative Clinic, which once built, will serve as a high-volume hub for many of the family physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and other health professionals providing primary health care in the community.

About You
  • A Baccalaureate degree from a health discipline or related field.
  • Minimum of three to five years' recent and related progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience in primary health care specifically family medicine will be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with physicians, nurse practitioners and registered nurses among other health professionals an asset.
  • Current registration with professional association (if applicable).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of primary health care, health promotion, health determinants, and dynamics of health needs in the community.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (oral, written and presentation) skills including the ability to work collaboratively with various professional and community individuals, demonstrating a high level of judgment, tact, creativity, diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget and resource management.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, project management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation in community settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with physicians and other stakeholders across multiple governance structures to establish and sustain strong collaborative family practice teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective collaborative relationships and partnerships with stakeholders and clients.

  • Proficiency with computer applications.
  • Demonstrated regular attendance in current and previous employment.
  • Experience in a unionized environment will be considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle required.
  • Travel will be required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
Hours of Work
  • This is a permanent full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly.
  • Monday to Friday daytime shifts, some evenings and weekends will be required.
  • Travel to various sites will be required.
Compensation and Incentives

The salary range for this position is $38.78-$51.53 per hour. The successful candidate may also be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
