The Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University is seeking a skilled psychiatrist to join the team at the East Coast Forensic Hospital in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. As a forensic psychiatrist, you will provide high-quality care to patients in the hospital's inpatient rehabilitation beds, FACT unit, and community program. You will also work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver correction health services to all correction facilities in the province.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide forensic psychiatric care to patients in the hospital and correction facilities, utilizing pharmacological and psychosocial treatment interventions.
  • Act as a consultant and leader of a multi-disciplinary team, including psychologists, social workers, case coordinators, occupational therapists, recreational therapists, and nurses.
  • Participate in a psychiatry on-call schedule as required.

Education and Research:

  • Didactic teaching at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education level.
  • Research and scholarly innovation are encouraged, with opportunities for protected research time.

Requirements:

  • Certification in Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) or equivalent.
  • Forensic subspecialty training is preferred.
  • Level of experience in Forensic Psychiatry will also be considered.

Reporting:

  • Reporting to the ECFH Clinical Director and Head, Section of Forensic & Correction Psychiatry.
