The Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University is seeking a highly skilled Forensic Psychiatrist to join our team at the East Coast Forensic Hospital (ECFH) in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. As a substantive psychiatrist, you will be responsible for providing forensic psychiatric care to patients in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment.
The ECFH is a leading psychiatric hospital in the Atlantic region, offering a range of services including inpatient rehabilitation, forensic assessment and correction treatment, and community programs. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including psychologists, social workers, case coordinators, occupational therapists, recreational therapists, and nurses.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Provide forensic psychiatric care to patients in a variety of settings, including inpatient and outpatient programs.
- Act as a consultant and leader of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Provide submissions to the Criminal Code Review Board.
- Participate in a psychiatry on-call schedule.
**Educational Duties:**
As a Forensic Psychiatrist, you will have the opportunity to engage in didactic teaching at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education level.
**Research Opportunities:**
We encourage research and scholarly innovation, and successful candidates may be eligible for protected research time depending on agreement with the Department of Psychiatry's research and executive leadership.
Requirements:
- Certification in Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) or equivalent.
- Forensic subspecialty training is preferred.
- Eligibility to sit for the FRCPC exams will be considered.
- Level of experience in Forensic Psychiatry will also be considered.
