About the Opportunity

The Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University is seeking a qualified psychiatrist to join the team at the East Coast Forensic Hospital (ECFH) in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, you will provide forensic psychiatric care to patients, including court assessments, rehabilitation programs, and correctional services.

The ECFH is a leading psychiatric hospital in the Atlantic region, offering a range of services, including inpatient rehabilitation, forensic assessment, and community programs. As a forensic psychiatrist, you will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team, develop your skills, and contribute to the growth of the department.

Major Responsibilities
  • Provide forensic psychiatric care to patients, including court assessments, rehabilitation programs, and correctional services.
  • Act as a consultant and leader of a multi-disciplinary team, working with psychologists, social workers, case coordinators, occupational therapists, recreational therapists, and nurses.
  • Provide submissions to the Criminal Code Review Board, including assessments of patient readiness for different levels of privileges and care.
  • Participate in a psychiatry on-call schedule as required within the program.
Qualifications
  • Certification in Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) or equivalent in another jurisdiction.
  • Forensic subspecialty training is preferred. Eligibility to sit for the FRCPC exams will be considered.
  • Level of experience in Forensic Psychiatry will also be considered.
