About the Opportunity

The Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University is seeking a qualified psychiatrist to join the East Coast Forensic Hospital (ECFH) team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, you will provide forensic psychiatric care to patients in the hospital and correctional facilities across the province.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide forensic psychiatric assessments and treatment to patients in the ECFH and correctional facilities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Conduct Court Assessments and provide submissions to the Criminal Code Review Board.
  • Participate in a psychiatry on-call schedule as required.
Education and Research

Didactic teaching at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education level is expected. Research and scholarly innovation are encouraged, and candidates with a track record in mental health research may be eligible for protected research time.

Qualifications
  • Certification in Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) or equivalent.
  • Forensic subspecialty training is preferred.
  • Eligibility to sit for the FRCPC exams will be considered.
  • Level of experience in Forensic Psychiatry will also be considered.
