Job Summary

The Environmental Services Assistant - Hospital Cleaning and Waste Management is responsible for providing a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (OSMH). This role involves waste management, cleaning, and support to the hospital's environmental services department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling
  • Assist with cleaning and maintenance of hospital facilities
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies
  • Follow infection control protocols and procedures
  • Work independently and as part of a team to achieve departmental goals
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and management

Requirements

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of one year of hospital janitorial experience preferred
  • Preference given to candidates with floor refinishing and carpet shampooing experience
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe handling and storage of chemicals and solvents
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and multitask efficiently
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and attendance record
  • Demonstrated ability to follow specific instructions and perform duties while maintaining infection control mandates
