About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Claims Consultant to join our Property Large Loss team at Intact Financial Corporation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and investigate large and complex commercial property claims with exposures over $1M or involving specialized types of loss within Canada and internationally.
- Engage and manage internal and external counsel, consultants, adjusters, accountants, and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability, and assess damages.
- Mentor and guide regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling and support long-term succession planning.
- Train colleagues on complex claims handling and provide technical advice as needed.
- Work with Underwriting, Loss Prevention, and other stakeholders to identify potential risks, hazards, and trends, sharing feedback and lessons learned.
- Provide excellent customer service to brokers, customers, and colleagues.
- Deliver and exceed on key performance indicators related to loss development and loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control, and expense management.
- Leverage expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to support best practice operations.
- Effectively negotiate claims when appropriate and attend settlement conferences and trials.
Requirements

- A problem-solver able to gather information, evaluate a situation, and negotiate the next steps toward a solution.

- A strong collaborator with a passion for mentoring and coaching others.
- 10+ years of experience with direct handling of large and complex commercial property claims.
- Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position.
- Undergraduate degree or CIP designation (asset).
- Flexible to travel as needed.
