Claims Adjuster

We're seeking a skilled Claims Adjuster - Large Loss to join our team in handling complex commercial property claims.
As a Claims Adjuster on our Property Large Loss team, you will be responsible for managing, investigating, analyzing, negotiating, and resolving large and complex commercial property claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and investigate large and complex commercial property claims with exposures over $1M or involving specialized kinds of loss
- Engage and manage internal and external counsel, consultants, adjusters, accountants, appraisers, and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability, and assess damages
- Mentor, guide, and provide technical advice to regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling and support long-term succession planning
- Train colleagues on complex claims handling
- Work with Underwriting, Loss Prevention, and other stakeholders to identify potential risks, hazards, and trends, sharing feedback and lessons learned
- Provide excellent customer service to brokers, customers, and colleagues
- Deliver key performance indicators related to loss development and loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control, and expense management
- Leverage expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to support a model of best practice operations
- Effectively negotiate claims when appropriate
- Attend settlement conferences and trials
Requirements:
- A critical thinker with intellectual curiosity when approaching complex problems in time-sensitive situations
- A skilled communicator able to foster favorable business relationships and provide clear guidance to clients
- A problem-solver able to gather information, evaluate a situation, and negotiate the next steps toward a solution
- Able to adapt to changing needs and understand the need to be flexible and agile
- A planner able to effectively organize to establish an effective strategy
- A strong collaborator with a passion for mentoring and coaching others
- 10+ years of experience with direct handling of large and complex commercial property claims
- Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position
- Undergraduate degree or CIP designation (asset)
- Travel required
- Valid driver's license
