Job Title: Education Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Education Support Specialist to join our team at School District #60 (Peace River North).

Job Summary:

The Education Support Specialist will work under the direction of the classroom teacher and District personnel to provide care and support to students with diverse needs. This includes providing instructional support, supervising students, and implementing behavior management programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides instructional support to students to implement educational programs as determined by the teacher/resource team/administrator.
  • Supervises students during educational activities, including in the classroom, gym, and playground.
  • Implements behavior management programs as determined by the teacher/resource team.
  • Provides person/health care and physical safety assistance to students.
  • Attends team/parent professional development meetings as required.

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Grade 12 or equivalency.
  • Must be willing to maintain current CPI status.
  • Level 1 First Aid Certificate may be required.
  • Education Assistant Certificate, which includes documented training in the following areas:
    • Pervasive developmental disorders, including ASD, FASD, and complex behavioral needs.
    • Developmental and sensory needs and disorders.
    • Personal care: dressing, toileting, feeding, lifting, transferring, seizure management.
    • Technology-assisted programs (e.g., Augmentative communication devices, Boardmaker, Apps, and other software).
    • Behavior support: conflict resolution, anger management, nonviolent behavioral interventions, behavior/safety/crisis/emergency plans.
    • Learning challenges: learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning challenges.
    • Formal POPARD training or experience.

Working Conditions:

The Education Support Specialist will work in a fast-paced educational environment, interacting with students, teachers, and other District personnel. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and will be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
