Overview

We are seeking an experienced investigator to lead our Special Investigations Unit, responsible for reducing the corporation's exposure to financial risk. As the Lead Investigator, you will oversee the investigation of suspicious claims and provide operational direction in the investigation of subrogation rights.

Responsibilities:

  • Casework Management: Manage daily operations, ensuring effective and efficient investigation of claims.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Make informed decisions based on data to measure department performance, triage priorities, and allocate resources to optimize service.
  • Strategic Initiatives: Lead strategic initiatives impacting claims referrals and operational processes for the SIU, providing advice and direction on policy and applicable law enforcement.
  • Committee Participation: Participate in the Corporate Claims Evaluation Committee (CCEC) to oversee suspicious claims handling and decision-making consistency with the corporation's mandate.
  • CPIC Coordination: Act as Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) coordinator for SIU and Identity Verification & Data Integrity (IV&DI), ensuring adherence to CPIC requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Referral Prioritization: Prioritize SIU referrals for investigation and review all criminal charges and regulatory enforcement actions originating from the IV&DI department – Identity Investigation Unit.
  • Crown Attorney Coordination: Coordinate activities with provincial Crown Attorneys and police departments, referring claims under the CCEC's direction for consideration of laying criminal charges against customers.
  • Direction and Support: Provide direction and assist with sensitive or complex customer or business partner issues, including internal matters involving employees within the corporation.
  • Representation: Represent Manitoba Public Insurance on external committees and industry organizations, collaborating with other jurisdictions on SIU matters.
  • Management Responsibilities: Oversee staff management, including budgeting, strategic planning, project budgeting, and improvement initiatives.
  • Performance Management: Supervise, coach, and conduct performance management evaluations for direct reports, fostering a high-performance culture consistent with corporate vision and values.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in management, criminology, law enforcement, or related field.
  • Completion of specialized investigation training.
  • Eight years' experience in investigations with strong interviewing skills, particularly in fraud, theft, and arson cases.
  • Five years' experience in a management or supervisory role is required.
  • Insurance company experience is an asset.
