The City of Chilliwack is seeking a skilled Building Inspector to join our Development and Regulatory Services Department's Building Division team. As a Building Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of buildings within the City.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and inspect building plans and designs for compliance with municipal policies, regulations, and codes.
  • Process and issue building permits, ensuring that all necessary documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure that buildings are constructed in accordance with approved plans and codes.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to builders, contractors, and the public on building codes, regulations, and policies.
  • Prepare and present reports on building inspections and code compliance.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Qualification to Level 1 in accordance with the Provincial Regulations and Building Officials' Association of BC.
  • Working knowledge of the BC Building Code, including Part 9 single-family dwellings and ancillary buildings.
  • Valid B.C. Driver's Licence.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Ability to prepare and present technical and non-technical written and verbal reports.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position, working 35 hours per week. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent deadlines and changing priorities.
